Why I built TrekList.
Planning is half the adventure, especially for a bucket list hike.
Before my Appalachian Trail thru-hike I built my first gear spreadsheet. It worked, but was tedious and boring. Before the PCT I switched to Lighterpack, the long-standing standard for hikers who care about gear organization and pack weight. It got the job done, but nothing has changed there in years. It's still a glorified spreadsheet.
I wanted to build on that idea. Keep it simple and easy, but actually move it forward. What started as a hobby project kept growing and I kept asking questions. What if there was a community section where hikers could talk gear and trail conditions? What if you could take a photo of product packaging to add gear? Or just drop a product link? What if you could customize backgrounds and implement a kanban-style view alongside the traditional list view? What about users who speak different languages?
It kept growing and that's TrekList today. A better tool for the same thing we've always loved doing.
